Look At That Floor Cloth

About 6 months ago I saw a floor cloth on the Internet (I don't remember where) that was made using fabric. I really didn't think about it for a long time.  This past weekend I wanted to work on something and needed to get away from the sewing machine. I am not sure what made me think of this but I knew that I just had to do it.

Between home and the shop I knew that I could find everything needed to make this. I remembered seeing some linoleum remnants in the attic at the shop. So Sunday afternoon I went to the shop and cut a piece of linoleum and a piece of fabric. It really did not take me too long to decide on this Jane Sassaman fabric.

I posted this picture on Facebook the day after I made it and it received a great response. I am going to be doing a demo at the shop on Saturday June 14.

The fabric used on the floor cloth is from this Jane Sassaman line Sweet Lady Jane.

City Sampler Sew Along

Tuesday was the monthly meeting for our "City Sampler Sew Along."We meet on the third Tuesday of each month. We have a morning session and an evening session.

The blocks are just 6 inches square. The participants are free to pick through Quilt Vine's scraps and everyone is very generous with sharing their scraps. There are 100 blocks in all, and we are scheduled to complete 10 blocks a month. Our goal is have the blocks completed in November. We will take December off and come back in January and February and work together on how we each will set them into a quilt.

Most of us have decided that instead of dragging our sewing machines out, the time spent together would be better utilized cutting out the blocks.

Quilt Vine's scrap stash.

Keeping track of the fabric used in each block.

Most of us have organized our blocks into a binder.

This Jane Sassaman print Bleeding Heart does not look like a Bleeding Heart when it is upside down.

Some completed blocks.

Some of us (like me) have as few as 20 blocks completed and some have as many as 70 blocks completed.

I can't wait to see all of them finished.

Some of the Elephants from Saturday's Class

Here are pictures of most of the elephants started in class on Saturday.
Everyone had a fun time (customers were commenting all day about the laughter coming from the classroom) and are well on their way to completing this great project.

I can't wait to see them finished.
I will post pictures.

The pattern for the Elephant is in this book, "Scrap Happy Quilting."
More books are due in tomorrow.

Elephant

You don't want to miss this one.
This Elephant Class is being offered this Saturday.
There are still 2 spaces available.
Call the shop to sign up today.

Back in the Fall Lou saw this pattern in a book, "Scrap Happy Quilting," and asked me to order it. She was determined to make it but kept putting it off. I really wanted to make one too, so I said let's do it together. One Saturday this past Winter we decided we would start it the next Friday night when the "7 Sisters Quilt Group" met. I sent a text to the group to see if anyone else would be interested in making it. I was surprised at the response when we had 7 (all of the active members but one) wanting to make it.
Here are 6 of the 7. I don't know what happened to Cheryl's.

Notice the trunk on the elephants. The pattern has the trunk turning under, but one of the girls said that the turned up trunk means "good luck" so some of the girls made theirs that way. Also, notice that one elephants is facing the opposite direction. That would be mine; I do like to be different.

We have 2 of them hanging in the shop and everyone kept saying that it needed to be a class. The class is scheduled for this Saturday. There are only 2 seats left. I am excited to see what they will look like.

I Love This Book

"The Modern Applique Workbook" arrived last week, and look at it!

Did I say "I love this book?"

It is hard to say which is my favorite, but I can't wait to make something from it.

I love machine applique and I love modern quilts.

And this is the best of both worlds.

Do you have a favorite?

I think this book has inspired me, and I have decided to have a "Book of the Month."

Each month an employee will choose a book and that book will be offered at 20% off all month.

Our "Book of the Month" for May is "The Modern Applique Workbook."

I love this book!
