I Am a Little Behind

June UFO

What do they say? Better late than never.
I am participating in Judy's UFO Challenge.
Number 8 was drawn for the UFO for June. I had 2 things listed for that number.
At least I got one of them done.

This quilt top was from a block exchange with my mom and sisters. I think it is from about 1999 or 2000. We all used the same background fabric. The blocks had to be red and blue with the background and they could be any size. It finished to be queen size. I  don't do many bed-size quilts.

Number 2 was drawn for July. I am really getting a late start on this. I have 2 quilts listed for #2. It will be a miracle if I get one of them done. But any way you look at it I am doing better than last year. In 2010 I kept up with a UFO Challenge through May. I guess Summer has a way of doing me in.

The first one listed for #2 is a small one. The applique is hand done. I do not do much hand work any more. I started it in 2009 and finished the top at retreat March 2010.

These 2 twin size quilts are for the beds in one of the quest rooms. They just need a border to finish up the tops. I wanted to put applique borders on them. They have been sitting around for a while (I think since 2006). I might end up not doing the applique just so I can get them done. I am afraid by the time I get them done I will have repainted that room.

Customer's Quilt

Bette's large quilt is finished.

Bette told me that this was a Civil War pattern but with the fabric that she used I think it looks more like an Hawaiian Quilt.

It is very refreshing and cheerful in these colors.

I quilted feathers in the border. I do a lot of feathers but I tried a different method this time. The new method I used is where you backtrack over the top of every-other feather. The older method (shown in red) is where you backtrack between each feather, so each feather is basically separate. The newer method looks more like a traditional hand-quilted feather.

Yes, I Still Quilt

This quilt belongs to Diann. Don't  you just LOVE those Kaffe Fassett fabrics!

I just did a simple overall swirl quilting. I usually only post pictures of custom quilting but it seems like I have not been doing a lot of quilting this summer. And besides, I absolutely love this quilt!

Art Bee About Town

Yesterday the Art Bee of Bayside Quilters strolled around Easton. Plein Air Easton is taking place right now. All about town and the surrounding county, artist can be seen out painting.

We also moseyed into the Academy of Art and a couple of galleries.

Since I have been quilting I view things differently. My eyes have been open to the beauty and color all around me.

It is a challenge for me to take this new love for color and express it in my quilting.

As a result, I also have a new  found appreciation for art, especially painting.

Lately I have been thinking about taking a painting class.

After this tour around Easton, I very much want to take a painting class.

Other than the heat it was a perfect day. Yesterday the heat index in Easton was 108.

For a perfect ending to a great day we went out to lunch.
Of course we had to do lunch!

Kayaking on LaTrappe Creek

The family went kayaking this afternoon. My husband led the way.

Son #2 is home now and went along.

My daughter was tired from the lacrosse tournament but I think she managed to have a good time.

 I had a great time.

I don't know why we don't do this more often. We live about a mile from the landing where we put in.

We had a picture perfect day.

Season Over

Lacrosse Summer Tournament Season is over for my daughter. It was fun while it lasted but I am glad we do not have to spend anymore weekends this summer at tournaments.

It was their first year together as a club team. For being their first year they did well and improved a lot over the season.

Taking a break between games.

This summer is going by very quickly and has been busy.
Think I will get any quilting done this week?

Summer Breeze

7-Sisters is raffling off this quilt. I love how it looked blowing in the Summer Breeze.

Almost There

Is it really the middle of July? Well, my UFO for June is almost done.

I finally finished the quilting.

I tried some different things with this quilt. Some of them I liked and some I didn't.

I quilted in some stars that I like, but I do not like the loopy background with them. They do not show up very well.

I really like how the quilted stars show up in the horizontal lines background. That does kind of surprise me.

If I had it to do again there are definitely some things I would do differently.

But all-in-all it is okay.

At least it is quilted. I have had this top since about 1999.

After I get the binding on I will take it outside for a photo shoot.
