Rising with the Sun

There is nothing like being on a quilting retreat and waking up to the sun rising over the Atlantic Ocean!
This is the view from my room.

Today I  worked on a very old UFO. This project was started in a class at Bayside in 2003. I know I have not worked on it since 2003. Today, when I first pulled out all of the pieces I thought maybe I would scrap all of it and start over. It really is not my color palette any more and the work is shoddy. I must say that I have improved in the last 9 years. But after some careful consideration I have decided to continue with it but to replace the pale yellow with a nice orange. What else? The class was a hand applique class and some of the pieces are hand appliqued on top of one another, but I will be finishing it by machine applique. I would like to finish it in this lifetime.

In the past there have been about 30 Baysiders attending retreat, but this year we were only 19.

The nice thing about it was that a lot of us had a table to ourselves.

Here are pictures of some of the girls working away the afternoon.

"Orange You Glad"

I am in Ocean City at Retreat and getting some quality and quantity sewing done. This is the quilt that I cut out on Saturday. I got the top done. The pattern is New Wave Quilt. Usually I have a very difficult time naming quilts, but this one just screamed its name to me; "Orange You Glad." Isn't that a great name for it?

All we have been doing is sewing and eating and a little bit of talking. It is so much fun spending great time with friends!

Stash Report - Week 9, 2012

Used this Week: 5 3/4 yards
Used year to Date: 43 7/8 yards
Added this Week: 0 yards
Added Year to Date: 14 1/4 yards

Net Used for 2012: 29 5/8 yards

So far this year the stash busting is moving right along. To maintain this pace all I need to do is stay out of the quilt shops. But I love going to quilt shops almost as much as I love fabric!

The fabric used this week was what I cut out yesterday for the "New Wave Quilt" pattern. I used 4 yards for the wedges and 1 3/4 yards of white. I will be  working on this at retreat and hope to get it done on Monday.

Getting Ready for Retreat

I am getting ready to leave for retreat tomorrow. I will spend Sunday through Wednesday in Ocean City, Maryland quilting with a group of ladies from Bayside Quilters. This will be my 4th time going and I always love every minute of it. All week I have been thinking about what I will take to work on. I have so many UFOs that I could just take some of those to keep me busy the entire time. But, I have an urge to start something new. I don't know about you, but I just absolutely love starting something new.

I have this pile of fabric that I have been dying to cut into. Most of these fabrics were purchased at Serendipity Quilt Shop in Dagsboro, Delaware. The pattern I am using is "New Wave Quilt" which can be found here. Isn't it just yummy? Every since I got this pattern I have been thinking about using these fabrics for it. So I decided today that I would cut it out so I would be all ready to sew when I get to retreat. Usually when I go to retreat I finish several UFOs before I start something new, but I think I will start with this one.

It is all cutout and stacked up and ready to go. Did I say that I LOVE these fabrics.

I still need to decide what UFOs I am taking along.

Faux Baltimore Album Quilt

This Faux Baltimore Album Quilt was put together by Sharon.

It really was not difficult deciding how to quilt it. All I did was echo quilt.

Eunice made this quilt.

It is a Trash to Treasure Pineapple Quilt using Gyleen Fitzgerald's Pineapple Tool.
It is a great way to use up scraps.
I love scrap quilts!

7-Sisters

Friday night the 7-Sisters continued working on the Storm at Sea quilt for the raffle this year. It is coming together quite nicely.

This is Lou's quilt that she made from the 7-Sisters fabric exchange that took place last summer. I think we are to have them all completed some time in April. I hope to post a picture of all 9 of them then.

Stash Report - Week 8, 2012

My 50th Birthday Quilt using the pattern "Mod Medallions" is ready to be quilted. I finished the top on Friday night and  I also got the back put together. The fabric that I used this week was for the back. The center of the back is fabric that guests signed at my birthday party last year. I also put the extra blocks on the back.

Used year to Date: 38 1/8 yards

Margaret's Flowers

Margaret made this fabulous quilt.

She quilted each block before she put it together.

She did thread painting in each of the large flowers.

Margaret quilted the white on white flowers also.

I just had to quilt the sashing and borders and enough in the blocks to keep it all together and evenly quilted.

I did need to add some leaves in the setting triangles.

Design Wall Monday

I do not actually have a design wall yet, but this is what I am working on. The pattern is Mod Medallions and I am using fabrics I got for my birthday last year.

To see what is on other design walls check out Patchwork Times.

This quilt was made by Eunice, of course for a new baby. Those fish are so adorable. I did some quick and easy quilting and that seems to be all it needed.

I was a naughty girl today. Yes, I went fabric shopping. Our local quilt shop had a Super Bowl Sale. 25% off everything in the store. My friend had given me a gift card for there for Christmas. I only purchased
4 1/4 yards and I still have $1.89 left on the card. Guess I wasn't so naughty after all.

Friday Night Sewing

Last night at 7-Sisters I got my back put together for my Sew Simple Pineapple Quilt. I am not really into these colors of fabric anymore so I tried to use a lot of it on the back. Earleen really likes these fabrics so I gave her some of my leftovers. I gave her about 2 1/2 yards. I told her that would be good for my weekly stash report.

This is Earleen's quilt. She was auditioning borders. We all think she will need to purchase something darker for the small inner border.

Chris put the final touches on the top of her Trash to Treasure Pineapple Quilt. I am loving this quilt. The border is just perfect!
