Getting Ready for Christmas

I will be teaching this adorable snowman wall hanging this Saturday.

The kit for this snowman is included in the price of the class and we will be having a potluck lunch. It promises to be a great day for all.

We have started getting the shop ready for Christmas.

I love decorating for the holidays!

On December 8th Quilt Vine will be having a Christmas Open House.

We will have demos and snacks throughout the day.

We have Gift Cards; the perfect gift for your quilting friends.

We are also offering Sit and Sew Days. Need a break from all of the hustle and bustle of the season? Come spend the day sewing with us at Quilt Vine.

Don't forget the Snowman class is this Saturday.

I finished the class sample for the Rain Poncho.

This Poncho will be a class that will be taught at Quilt Vine in the first quarter of 2013.

We have a few beautiful laminate fabrics in stock that are just perfect for rain wear and many other  uses.

The Poncho is one size fits all and as you can see it looks great on Lou too.

What's New

New fabric is arriving in the shop all of the time. I have fallen behind with posting new stuff so here goes. Last week we got in a shipment from Westminster. I LOVE their stuff. We got in fabrics by great designers like Kaffe Fassett, Brandon Mably, Philip Jacobs, Joel Dewberry, and Martha Negley.

This is a new line from Joel Dewberry. BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!

Chris and I loved this Banded Poppy by Philip Jacobs so much we had to get 3 different color ways. We love every one, but isn't that black luscious?

Painted Daisy is also by Philip Jacobs.

Chris deciding where to put them on the shelves.

This truly is a feast for the eyes.

Love these fish by Brandon Mably. We used the red in a sample quilt and sold out quickly. We just had to get it in two color ways this time.

These fat quarter packs are Kaffe fabrics. They are so yummy!

Stop in and see all of our great fabric!

Jane's Star

We are planning on teaching a class next year on a quilt from Jane Sassaman's book. I just love her fabrics. Anyway, I decided to make the star part of the quilt out of this fabric; not a Sassaman fabric. When I was cutting the fabric I assumed I was going to lay it out like the top picture, but after laying it out I decided on the second one.

The idea of Jane's book is to show you how to use those large print fabrics. I chose the star fabric before even considering what other fabric I would use. The problem is that I could not find another large print fabric in the store to go with it.

These two fabrics were the best thing we could find to go with my star fabric. When I laid them out like this I really did not like either one. So, I took the easy way out and decided on a solid.

I guess now I need to make one with two coordinating large prints to demonstrate the techniques in the book.

I have the top all put together now. I do like it but it does not have the same effect as the ones made with two large print fabrics. The picture below was taken from Jane Sassaman's book. We do have both of these fabrics in stock. Cheryl made one and it looks fabulous!

Show and Tell

Margaret made this quilt for her grandson's wedding. She had the quilt top at the Wedding Reception so those attending could sign it. The couple's engagement photo is in the center. I had the privilege of quilting it.

Kisha stopped in with her Spider Web quilt top. She is planning on hand quilting it and was looking for some advice on the quilting.

Earleen and Barbara went on a quilt retreat. They both got a lot of tops done. I think the first bunch are Earleen's and the last couple are Barbara's. Earleen's Fish Quilt is a little different from Chris' Fishes that was posted here. I love it!

Two scrappy tops Earleen finished.

Earleen made this "Disappearing 4-Patch" with some samples that I gave her. I really love this. I am thinking of using this pattern for a Black-n-White quilt that I need for a gift.

Two quilt tops that Barbara finished at retreat.

Bring your quilts and tops in, we would love to see what you are doing.

"Spools"

I am anxious to get "Spools" quilted. I went to the shop today and loaded it onto the longarm. At first I loaded it on vertically like I do most quilts. After it was loaded and basted I was looking at it to decide how I want to quilt it. I wanted to get it all figured out so that the next time I am able to quilt I will be able to get right at it. Well, what I decided on will be some much easier to quilt from top to bottom. To keep the quilting flowing and to avoid a lot of starts and stops, I will need to have it loaded horizontally. So, I had to take it off and reload it. At least I have it all ready to go. Hopefully I will have the time to quilt it tomorrow.

Marmalade

We now have the fabric line, Marmalade by Bonnie and Camille for Moda.

Lou made this quilt, Spools, for a shop sample. This pattern is also by Bonnie and Camille and uses the entire line of Marmalade.

Here is that beautiful line of fabric on the window seat. Twenty six lovely fabrics to choose from. If you can't make up your mind you can always pick up a jelly roll.

The two patterns that go with this fabric line.

We will be making kits for the Spools quilt.
