Karen's Star Quilt

This fabulous giant quilt belongs to Karen.

Karen made the first star in this quilt in the "Jane's Star" class here at Quilt Vine. She made one and couldn't stop.

This King-sized quilt is for her bed.

When she gave it to me she just said, Do something modern."

The quilting in the border is something I have never done in a border before. I like it. Guess I will have to do that again.

This quilt also looks really great from the back.

Chris' Fishes Class

This is the quilt that started it all. First of all I was not originally in love with this fish fabric. Thank goodness Chris is usually there with me when the sales reps come to call. She really liked this fabric so we got it. After it arrived both of us thought that we had to do a shop sample to highlight this fabric so it would sell.

And here is the pattern that started this craze. I chose this pattern for the fish fabric because to me it had the perfect focus spot. This pattern is Bricks by Mountain Peek Creations. We never could have foreseen the reaction that we got from this fish quilt. Everyone that came into the shop just loved it. So many wanted the exact fabrics that we had in the sample. This pattern is the best selling item in the shop since we opened in September. We had no choice but to offer it as a class.  The class was held last Saturday. Here are pictures from that class.

This was actually another shop sample we made featuring Valori Wells' Cocoon Fabric.

I don't know about you, but I love each one of them. Everyone had a great time in class! We have a lot more classes being offered this quarter. It is not too late to sign up now.

Jane's Star

We are planning on teaching a class next year on a quilt from Jane Sassaman's book. I just love her fabrics. Anyway, I decided to make the star part of the quilt out of this fabric; not a Sassaman fabric. When I was cutting the fabric I assumed I was going to lay it out like the top picture, but after laying it out I decided on the second one.

The idea of Jane's book is to show you how to use those large print fabrics. I chose the star fabric before even considering what other fabric I would use. The problem is that I could not find another large print fabric in the store to go with it.

These two fabrics were the best thing we could find to go with my star fabric. When I laid them out like this I really did not like either one. So, I took the easy way out and decided on a solid.

I guess now I need to make one with two coordinating large prints to demonstrate the techniques in the book.

I have the top all put together now. I do like it but it does not have the same effect as the ones made with two large print fabrics. The picture below was taken from Jane Sassaman's book. We do have both of these fabrics in stock. Cheryl made one and it looks fabulous!
