Happy Easter

Mark 16:6
And he said to them, "Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him.

This is Bette's birthday quilt. The blocks were made by members of the Bayside Quilter's Fiber Arts Bee.

Bette's birthday is in April and she asked for bunnies.

April Showers

Our mini for April, "April Showers," is ready. Like February we had a difficult time finding a pattern for a mini that we liked.

This is the mini I designed for February. We had trouble deciding what color to do the kits in so we did both.

A few years ago I made this quilt for a challenge at Bayside Quilters. The challenge was "Water Is More Than H2O". When trying to decide what to use for the April mini the obvious choice was a girl with an umbrella. It couldn't be that difficult since I had already done it before. All I needed to do for the April mini was to make the applique smaller.

I found out the really difficult part was choosing the fabric.

This was my first choice.

The problem was that the lighter fabric did not show well on the backgrounds I was picking out.

So, I changed up one of the umbrella fabrics and that helped.

But, I was still not happy with it.

Then this new fabric arrived, Comma by Moda. It looks like rain. I just had to use this for the background, but then the umbrella needed to change.

Something about this just wasn't what I was looking for.

So, I decided to change everything. I first chose the border. I wanted something that looked like Spring. I did like this but was having so much trouble deciding what I wanted to use. My daughter suggested that I take a poll on Facebook, so that is what I did.

I posted this picture and asked for help. I requested that they vote for the pink coat or the red coat. The red coat won by a landslide.

Guess what? I still was not happy with it. What really needed to happen was just to change the border. This is the result and everyone loves it.

Isn't she cute?

"Start With Hearts"

Last night we held the second part of our beginner class, "Start With Hearts." In the first meeting the class learned rotary cutting and they began piecing. Last night they continued piecing and put the entire top together. Next time we will quilt using a walking foot and bind it. Everyone will go home with a completed little quilt.

Maria is almost done her top. She hasn't chosen her outside border yet.

Isn't it interesting to see how different each one is? Someone made the comment that the fabric choice matches the personality of the person making it.

At the first class many of the girls had never used a sewing machine before. It is so exciting to help get new quilters started.

"Sew Around the Clock"

On Saturday we had our first "Sew Around the Clock" at Quilt Vine. Nine ladies participated in this 12 hour sew-in. We were supposed to end at 10 pm, but most of us stayed until midnight. We were planning to have a "Sew Around the Clock" every quarter but those participating on Saturday want to do it every month. We will have to see what we can do.

I cut and pieced this top after the shop closed. It is from the 5 Minute Block Book.

Tyra is working on this quilt. It will get white in between the rows.

The conversation here looks pretty intense.

Tyra looks like she is having a good time.

Those Christmas Jammies sure look comfy.

Barbara is here hand stitching in her Raven PJs.

 Lou's wall of quilts.

Dinner is included in the sew-in. The first course is on the table.

Toward the end of the night Lou was getting a little bit silly.

We are all looking forward to the next "Sew Around the Clock."

Customer Quilts

I have been busy longarm quilting this week. So that I don't fall farther behind in posting, I am putting 4 quilts in one post.

This is Jean's quilt. I love the modern look and the colors are fabulous.

Jean drew out the quilting design for me. I think it looks very nice.

This is Dael's quilt. I believe it is for her mother. Dael is a new quilter and she is doing a fantastic job.

I love leaves. I quilted in the wind blowing them around.

This is Susan's quilt. Who doesn't love the Chevron? Love the fabric too. Everyone of them came from Quilt Vine.

This is Lou's quilt. I quilted it before this week but I had never posted it. It is the "strip tube quilt" method. All of her fabric also came from Quilt Vine.
