Hurricane Irene Quilt
When I saw this quilt I knew immediately that I wanted to make one. I first saw it at In Color Order where Jeni had it posted as one of her favorites of the week. Today I thought I should find where the quilt originated from so I could give the proper credit. The quilt inspiration and tutorial can be found here at Jenn Of All Trades. Since I did not find the tutorial until today I did it my own way.
Yesterday afternoon I proceeded to make mine figuring it out myself. I had the top and back finished in about 2 1/2 hours.
The way I made mine was to sew together a 6 inch strip of white to a 2 1/2 inch strip of orange. Then I took my 6 1/2 inch square ruler and skewed it to cut a block. I turned the ruler a little different each cut so the blocks are not exactly the same.I had 48 blocks. I wanted the quilt to be square. I did not feel like getting the fabric out and cutting again to make 1 more block so the quilt could be 7 x 7 blocks. Therefore the quilt is just 6 x 6 blocks and I put the left over blocks on the back.
Here it is loaded on the longarm ready to be quilted.
I finished quilting it last evening and put the binding on today. The whole quilt was done during Hurricane Irene. We didn't get hit as bad by the hurricane as we thought we would. We did end up getting about 12 inches of rain. The winds were at its worst from about 4AM to 7AM. We do know a lot of people without power, but fortunately we never lost ours. Now the sun is out and it is a beautiful day. The top picture was just taken outside.

My daughter is back to school, I am back to sewing and quilting, and I am out of the red on my stash report. This week I used fabric for the binding on my August UFO, 7-Sisters fabric exchange project, and something I decided to do yesterday during the hurricane.

Colette's Wedding Quilt
Colette has made yet another Wedding Quilt. Just about everybody in Ireland should have one by now. She makes one for all of her relatives when they get married.
Colette even taught a class on it earlier this year.
You might remember Mary Lou made one that I quilted in April.
Iris
I made this wall hanging in a class with rose Hahn at Bayside Quilters in May 2009. I got an email from Pat the other day about this quilt. She was in the class with me. Pat said she was working on hers again and was having trouble with it. She asked me to email her a picture. This little quilt hangs in my master bathroom.

August UFO is Bound and Finished
I put the binding on my August UFO today.
This scrappy top was made from a block exchange with my mom and sisters in 2004-2005.
In July 2004, My mom, 2 younger sisters, niece, daughter and myself went to the Outdoor Quilt Show in Sisters, Oregon.
Up to that point we had several block exchanges. We were wanting to do another but was not sure what we wanted to do. We saw this quilt at the Quilt Show and all agreed we wanted to do something similar.
We got a marbled black for the block centers that we all used. They were cut 2 1/2 inches square. Each block had to have 4 rounds of different fabrics any width. The raw block needed to measure 8 1/2 inches.
I put my top together about 3 to 4 years ago at a retreat put on by Peggy's Sewing Center.
I also pieced the back at this retreat. I had planned to use black cornerstones. I had all of the sashing and cornerstones put together. When I put them into the top I did not like it at all. since I already had all of the sashing and cornerstones put together I decided to put them on the back. I also had 4 extra blocks that I put on the back.

UFO Challenge
I am falling behind on my UFOs again. Last year I participated in a UFO Challenge and only kept up until June. Well, this year I was doing great until it got to June. I finally did finished my June UFO late in July. Here it is late in August and I have not done my July or August UFO. I am determined to do better than last year. I will not attempt to catch up but I will jump in right where I am. If you remember, at the beginning of the year I had more than 12 UFOs listed. I actually listed 18, so for 6 of the months I had 2 UFOs. All year my goal has been to get at least one UFO completed each month, so I am really not doing too bad.
So, let's take a look at what I have for July and August.
So, let's take a look at what I have for July and August.
For July #2 was drawn. This top is listed as 2a. It is a small one. The top is finished and just needs quilting. Of the 4 listed for July and August this would be the easiest to finish.
For 2b I actually have 2 quilts. They are twin size. They both need a large border and quilted. It looks like these 2 will not get done this year.
For August #7 was drawn and again I have 2 quilts listed. 7a is a large top that just needs quilted.
7b is fused leaves. It still needs a lot of work, so it looks like this one will not get done this year either.
I really want to get one finished for August. I am not sure which one yet, but it will definitely be one that is ready to be quilted.

A Visit From My Baby Sister and Her Babies
This week my mother and my youngest sister came to visit for a few days. This was the first time I met my newest nephew. He is 3 1/2 months old. His older brother is 3. My daughter had a good time with them.
Nana and Hubby are entertaining big Nephew by playing soccer with him.
My sister and big nephew enjoyed some time together in the pool.
Nana and I kept a close eye on little nephew while mommy was in the pool with brother.
My daughter has a special bond with little nephew. They share the same birthday. She calls him her
"birth cousin."
Time for me to get off this computer. My daughter just left for field hockey practice and I better get to quilting.
