Harvest Time

I love everything about Fall. I haven't made any Fall quilts the last few years because since opening the shop we seem to spend so much time on Christmas.

I was determined this year that I was going to concentrate on Fall.

I started by ordering Kaffe Fassett fabrics with Fall colors and I had to have the Peppered Cotton in Rust.

When I saw this pattern I knew it was something I wanted to make.

Here are some of the blocks coming together.

The quilt top all pieced.

Showing my quilt top for WIP It Up Saturday.

The quilt top with the leaves fused on.

Stitching on the leaves.

Quilting with the long arm.

I have to tell you I did not do the hand embroidery.
I wanted to do it but I did not want to spend all that time on it. I started doing the hand embroidery, and after 4 hours all I had done was the hat of the scarecrow. I just didn't have time for that. My mom loves hand embroidery and she is very quick at it, so I asked her to do it for me.

The embroidery is done in a dark green variegated Pearl Cotton and it is gorgeous!

Since it is a shop sample I quilted it quickly to get it done. Even though I did not quilt around all of the embroidery it still looks pretty good. I just quilted some windy swirls.

Fall H2O

For the Fall H2O block I did make a few changes from our monthly mini. The biggest change was I had to stand the little guy in water.

Some of the fabrics that I chose initially did change.

For this block I did not want a blue sky. If standing in the marsh, the boy would be surrounded by dry reeds and cattails in the Fall, so I wanted the background gold.

The water really would not be blue. I tried several fabrics before coming up with the right one. The background was also not working for me, it was just too dark.

And like the Summer block I needed something else in the foreground. The dog from the monthly mini would not work since he was standing in water. I am very happy with the final fabrics and the cattail.

Fall Decorating with Quilts

I was just sitting here using my laptop  this morning when I thought," Boy, I have a few fall quilts. Why not take some pictures to put on my blog." The first one is a Thimbleberries pattern.
I think I made it 2 years ago.

The center of this quilt in my kitchen is from the book Baltimore Country Cousins by Susan McKelvey.  Susan is in one of my guilds. There is a picture of a quilt I made (not this one) in that book. I think I made this top about 2007 and quilted it in 2009.

Fall is my favorite time of year and typically I have always loved fall colors.
Although, now I am liking brighter stuff.

I made this quilt on the table last year. It is made with a cake stand I purchased at a local quilt show in the summer of 2009. I was fortunate to find fabric in the same line on the Internet. The great part was that it was on sale since it was the previous year's fabric. I put the entire top together on one Friday night. I knew when I was making it that it needed something between the center and the orange border but I did not have other fabric with me and I wanted to finish that night.

I was not happy with it so I added the rick-rack. I sewed the rick-rack down as I was quilting. That was just what it needed and I love it. Who doesn't live rick-rack?

The other thing I did not like at first were the solids in the cake stand. But, once again, now I love them because the quilting really shows in them.

I always have a quilt hanging beside the fireplace to snuggle under if someone gets a bit chilly. This is one of the first quilts I quilted on the longarm. It was done in 2004.
