Super Quilt Seminar

This past weekend was the Ricky Tims Super Quilt Seminar in Newark, DE.

There were about 12 ladies there attending that I know from the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Pictured with Ricky are: Nancy, Kitty, Sharon, Lou, Cyndy, Nita, Beth, Sherry, Suzie, Gloria, Fayette, Jan, and me.

Lou and I went together. Here is Lou with Ricky.

There I am with Ricky.

The entire seminar was just amazing. Ricky has so much knowledge about quilting and he loves sharing what he has learned. His presentation is interesting and entertaining.

I can't say enough about the seminar. There was so much to take in I think my brain was on overload. I came away from there wanting to try it all. The way Ricky explained everything you come away thinking "I can really do that".

I hope after I try some of these things they will be classes that I will offer at Quilt Vine.

Ricky's Self Portrait.

Ricky's Caveman Piecing is quick and easy.

Ricky is also well known for his Rhapsody Quilts. His first Rhapsody quilt is in the picture behind Lou, and here is a close up.

Another Rhapsody Quilt.

This is a new quilt of his that is going to be featured in a magazine soon.

Ricky is showing how easy it is to put together a Kool Kaleidoscope Quilt.

Two of his kaleidoscope quilts.

Two of his Convergence Quilts.

Ricky's side kick Alex Anderson was also presenting. Here I am with her.
Remember her from Simply Quilts on HGTV?

This is Alex' new quilt and she said she will be making it into a pattern.
I love it.

One night we had Sushi for dinner.

Lou and I even had some time to do a little sewing in our room.
Remember, don't leave home without your sewing machine.

Working on my Rhapsody

Yesterday I went to Retreat Bee and worked on my Rhapsody Quilt. I have 3 fabrics chosen for my background. I took my fabric and scanned them and printed them on paper. The colors were not exactly on but they were good enough to decide where I wanted to place them. The top picture is of the paper fabric on the original pattern made on printer paper. I might need one more fabric for the outside edge.

I got some of the background pieces cut out. The finished quilt will measure about 60 inches square. I am loving this already!

Rhapsody Bee

Yesterday, our Rhapsody Bee met for the second time. First we watched some of the video and then we enlarged our pattern.

We invaded Margaret's house. Here is Margaret working on her pattern.

Janie was really getting down on her pattern.

This is my pattern enlarged.

This is my small pattern. That is what the background of my quilt should look like. Most of us are doing our quilts so they will be about 60" square when finished.

I don't know why, but all of my pictures of Fran were blurry.

Sylvia working on her pattern.

The pool table was a great space for Margie to enlarge her pattern.

Rose was not with us last month so she is working on her small design.

Next month we will start working with fabric. I can't wait!

Rhapsody Bee

Have you ever wanted to try something new but were hesitant to start it on your own? That is the way I felt about Ricky Tims' Rhapsody Quilt. I wanted to make one but figured it would just be one more UFO. I had the great idea to do it as a Bee. We can all help each other out as we work on our quilts. The plan is to meet each month and plan out what we will do before the next meeting. Our hope is to have the quilt top finished in about a year.

Today some of the Bayside Quilters started this new Bee; the "Rhapsody Bee."

The first thing we did was to watch the video. Ricky makes it look so easy. I also have the book but it is so much better watching the video.

After lunch we started designing the skeleton for our quilt. I forgot to get a picture of everyone else's so these are all pictures of mine.

To begin with you design the skeleton on a 8 1/2 inch square sheet of paper.

This is the first one I did; definitely not a winner.

This is the second one. It is okay but a little too plain. Although it would be easier to piece.

This is the third one. It has possibilities.

At this point I am leaning toward one of these last two. What do you think? Should I choose one of these or design a few more? I really am a "git-r-done" kind of person and I do not want to waste time designing more if it is not necessary.

We will meet again on the third Monday of April. At that point we are to have this basic design completed and decided what size we want our finished quilt to be. Then together we will make our enlarged patterns. This is going to be a fantastic quilt and I look forward to making it with my friends.

Stash Report - Week 11, 2012

Yes, I broke down and bought some fabric for my stash. I am planning on starting a Rhapsody Quilt and I think this will be great for that.

This past weekend my husband and I flew to Ohio to visit our son that just moved out. We went house hunting with him. He is presently in corporate housing for the first month. I think we all decided that it would be best for him to rent for about 6 months and become more familiar with the area.

Anyway, while we were there I spotted a quit shop, Lonestar Quilting . I just can't help myself. When I go into a quilt shop I have to purchase something. I am doing really good so far this year with my stash busting so I added 4 1/2 yards to my stash.

This week I only used about 1/2 yard for some blocks for a project that my Retreat Bee is doing for Bayside Quilters. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture before I handed them in for the project.

Used this Week: 1/2 yard
Used year to Date: 51 3/4 yards
Added this Week: 4 1/2 yards
Added Year to Date: 18 3/4 yards

Net Used for 2012: 33 yards

You can go to Patchwork Times to see more stash reports.
