Wedding Dress

Today is my anniversary. It was 30 years ago today that I walked down the aisle in this beautiful dress.

I crocheted this dress way back then. I used to crochet a lot and money was tight so it seemed like the perfect solution. I remember that the Knit Cro Sheen cost me $33.

It took me about 7 months to make it. I took it with me everywhere I went and worked on it. I spent a lot of time crocheting at Dave's baseball games.

It seems that crocheting is back in vogue. I thought it would be appropriate to display the dress in my shop; especially since it is 30 years old now. The dress really does look so good on this mannequin in the shop.

Until December, I had not crocheted since I started quilting. My daughter is very into scarves so I crocheted her one for Christmas. I could not find a crochet hook and actually had to go out and buy one. Now she wants me to teach her to crochet.

Here we are 30 years ago.

And here we are today. Yes, we have changed a little.

  1. Happy Anniversary :) I'm glad crocheting is coming back into vogue (I'm not a knitter and it seems to be too popular.) While I didn't crochet a wedding dress, I did crochet a patchwork 'quilt' back ca 1978, which I still have and use in the winter - it's toasty warm.

  2. What a lovely dress. My dress was also crocheted-by my Mom and it was & still is beautiful, with a full skirt, scoop neckline & cap sleeves. She also crocheted edging all around my veil, crocheted the flower girl dress & my ring bearer's pillow. It truly was a labor of love, either that or she was so happy that I was finally getting married, she would have done anything to facilitate it ;)

  4. Candy Happy Anniversary: The dress is beautiful and I can see all the dedication you put into it. I also crocheted a lot before I started quilting, but 2 years ago I decided to do more crocheting. I think it is a very special thing when we can make our own things, even if it is crocheting, quilting, sewing or etc. It makes it very special when done by our hands that God gives us the talent.

  5. You're dress is beautiful. I'm actually thinking of crocheting a dress for myself and was wondering if you could send me or post a picture of the back of the dress. =D
