Grandmother's Flower Garden

This antique quilt top was brought in by a customer that does not quilt. It was made by her grandmother and she was desperate for me to quilt it.

This top was all hand pieced and there was nothing flat and smooth about it.

When I started to put it on the long arm I questioned myself if I had bit off more than I could chew.

Before agreeing to take on this project I had informed the customer that I would be straightening off the edges.

After loading the quilt I stared at it a while trying to decide how to quilt it. I really wanted to do something special, but because of the condition of the top I was resolved to the fact that the best thing to do was to stipple the entire quilt.

I am sure you have heard it said when working with an imperfect quilt top that it can be "quilted out." Well, it did the trick. The quilt is not perfect but I think it does look pretty good.

I don't generally offer the service of binding, but because I was dealing with a non-quilter and her grandmother's work, I did make an exception.

I have to be honest and say that I was a little anxious about quilting this family treasure, but I am very pleased with the result. I hope my customer is as happy as I am.

Row By Row Experience

Quilt Vine will be participating in the Row By Row Experience this Summer. This year Row by Row Experience has expanded to 35 areas in the United States and Canada, and includes 1250 shops. That's a lot of Quilt Shops!

Each Quilt Shop will have designed a unique row with a "Sew a Season" theme. Collect the free patterns by visiting the shops during your travels this summer, July 1 - September 2.

We decided to go with Summer as the season for our row. You can only get the free pattern by visiting Quilt Vine July 1 - September 2. We will also be making kits that will be available for purchase.

Along with the row patterns, participating shops will have fabric license plates for sale. What a fun way to keep track of your travels this summer.

I am sew glad to have have our row completed and posted. Now it is time to finalize the patterns and print them.
